Introducing Chloë Butler: Clean Beauty and Wellness Guru
At WELL, we are committed to shining a light on things that we believe in. We are constantly challenging ourselves to live more sustainably and highlight brands, and people that help us incorporate these values into our everyday lives. We’re excited to introduce you to WELL,’s newest contributor, Chloe Butler as we dive into clean beauty and wellness! Below Chloe shares a bit of her story and personal journey as well as her mission behind her new clean skincare brand, Eighth and Eden.
WELL, hello!
I am Chloë Butler (BDS), founder of Eighth and Eden, a wellness and cosmetic clinic based in Worcestershire, UK.
My life’s goal is to help people become better versions of themselves. This is why I established Eighth and Eden, a destination where people can discover wellness and aesthetic programmes based on the fundamental actions of Enhance, Treat, Nourish and Activate to aid them on their wellness journey.
What’s in a name?
The number eight holds much significance for me. It represents my Chinese heritage from my grandparents, who are from Hong Kong. Throughout my life, the number eight has brought me peace, harmony and balance, helping me to plan and discover new paths.
In Eighth and Eden I have created a place where the elusive idea of inner and outer beauty becomes a tangible experience and where the concepts of wellbeing, nature and nurture can radiate.
This, to me, was Eden – a place to escape and reconnect. Eighth and Eden.
My ‘Why’
I am devoted to the concept of skincare and anti-ageing. After all it is my job!
Some may call it vanity, others call it health … all I know is that there is a huge correlation between how I feel internally and what I look like.
My personal goal – to look and feel as good as possible.
My professional goal – to help my clients look and feel as good as possible.
My story – when I started treating skin I realised how vital skin health is to our overall wellbeing, and vice versa.
We all want healthy skin, right?
Any imbalance affects our skin. Stress, diet and applied products all have a direct effect on the health of our skin and how it looks. So we need to ‘feed’ it with healthy products.
Your skin is super absorbent, meaning anything you put on it is absorbed into your internal system. A good mantra to live by:
Yet throughout my 18 years of specialisation in aesthetics and skincare, I have always been amazed at the lack of regulation in the personal care industry.
Depending on where you are in the world, it can be completely legal to have known carcinogenic substances and / or endocrine disruptors as ingredients in skincare products. You could be, quite literally, slathering yourself in toxins before you even leave the house.
[endocrine disruptors are substances that disrupt the body’s endocrine – or hormonal – system]
Cosmetic products may feel great on the skin. That’s usually due to the plasticisers (silicones), which may make our face look and feel nice in the moment but they don’t contribute to the long term health of your skin.
Other unregulated, potentially toxic ingredients can act as endocrine disruptors linked to cancer and developmental problems .
An additional downside is once they’re rinsed down the drain they contribute to the build-up of sludge pollution in oceans. To top it off, many don’t break down for hundreds of years.
My Mission
My mission is two-fold. Firstly, to create a range of products which would be safe enough for my daughters, yet powerful enough to deliver high quality results. Secondly, to educate my clients on the benefits of switching their normal beauty routine to the next, natural level.
Made up of 100% organic ingredients and handmade in the UK, Chloe Loves Organics is my own range. The Chloe Love Organics range is free from Parabens, Alcohol, Petrochemicals, Artificial fragrance and anything that could upset or imbalance sensitive skin.
Since using my products, my own skin is softer and more hydrated without exposure to all the weird chemicals found in most non-natural products.
I continue to strive to promote all things organic and try wherever possible to be as clean as possible. Sure you can’t always be 100% ‘clean’ in life, but clean beauty is an easy switch. Natural beauty products have finally found their spot on the beauty shelf, and in our homes. They have become easier to find for a reason, natural formulas are more effective than ever.
You may not have been tempted over to the au naturale side … yet but I’ll be here with WELL, to give my best advice in my new, monthly column.
The benefits are real. Your skin, body and mind will thank you.
